The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
So I finally got to see it today after hearing all the hype (and got paid £12.50 for the pleasure, I love my new job working in the cinema!) and what struck me was the fact it doesn’t actually pass the Bechdel test, despite Lisbeth’s character being a feminist.
Now, what I find really interesting is the title change. That’s the original title in the pic - “Män som hater kvinnor”, or “Men Who Hate Women”. How did it go from that to “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”? With a nude photo being the main promo shot? Seems to defeat the point…
The sad thing is, (please forgive me if you disagree) that less men in this country would go see it if it was “Men Who Hate Women”. I do want to read the book now though, before I have an overall opinion though.
RIP Optimo 1997 - 2010
I can’t believe it. It’ll be gone in 2 months. I’m excited for what’s coming after, as it’s still Twitch and Wilkes, and it basically seems to be a loose version of Optimo. But still. Sad times. Will miss ya. My ears love you.
Wimmen at the Oscars, eh?
So, we have a female director winning an Oscar, which is apparantly a big deal. Why? Is it because finally people realised that women aren’t just there to look pretty in films? That women are confident enough to go out there and be directors instead of editors and producers? Is it just there are not a lot of women in the film industry? Who knows. It’ll be interesting to see how things go from here.
Stress
Why is it that I’ve got the confidence to go out there and say “I’m a good filmmaker” but when I have to explain the concept for a film I want to make to the person I’m making it for, I crumble? I’ve been trying to come up with a low budget concept for “Fountain/Mountain” by Remember, Remember and I have one I like that I know I can pull off and it will look great but the idea of telling them about it? Scaring the utter shit out of me.
